Stopping Concrete Dusting: Priming Guidelines Before Epoxy and PU Floor Coatings

daumer-photo-blog

The primary vulnerability of concrete floors in industrial plants, logistics facilities, and parking structures is surface dusting. A dusting floor indicates that the concrete matrix has lost its mechanical skin strength. Attempting to apply epoxy/polyurethane coatings or liquid waterproofing directly over such untreated slabs prevents the chemical from bonding, leading to wide-scale delamination and peeling as the coating detaches along with the weak concrete dust.

The Solution: Deep-Penetrating Low-Viscosity Resin Engineering Securing a durable floor finish requires stabilizing the substrate via deep-penetrating impregnating resins:

  • For Porous Mineral Substrates: Formulated as a two-component, solvent-free pure epoxy matrix, DAUGUARD E-PRIMEX SF features a low viscosity designed to saturate the capillary tracts of concrete and screeds. It completely eliminates dusting on both old and fresh floors, reinforces structural density, and creates an unyielding anchorage layer for industrial topcoats.
  • For Non-Porous and Complex Substrates: On challenging substrates like steel, wood, marble, glass, or ultra-dense power-troweled slabs, the single-component, fast-curing DAUGUARD PU-PRIMER should be deployed. It flashes off quickly to deliver a seamless, crystal-clear bonding profile that crosslinks tightly with subsequent polyurethane systems.
