Waterproofing Concrete Cold Joints: PVC and TPE Expansion Waterstops

daumer-photo-blog

In large-scale civil engineering, pouring an entire concrete structure monolithically is impossible. Structural weakness areas known as “cold joints” naturally develop between two separate pouring phases—such as the junction between a raft foundation and a retaining wall. These interfaces act as open pathways for pressurized groundwater. Worse still, if the large expansion and settling gaps designed to accommodate seismic shifts (dilatations) are not secured with professional waterproofing bands, they become the primary source of structural water damage.

The Solution: Swelling Hydrophilic Rubber, PVC, and TPE Joint Systems Daumer engineers a three-tier absolute sealing technology tailored to heavy infrastructure and commercial structural movement joints:

  • Smart Swelling Waterstops Activated by Moisture: Installed directly inside the construction joint before the subsequent pour, the hydrophilic TPE-based DAUPRO WATERSTOP QB-05 / QB-10 (Quellband) expands volumetrically upon its first contact with water, tightly plugging the capillary interface.
  • Ribbed PVC Bars Embedded in Concrete: Fixed within the formwork directly inside the core matrix, the 20 cm flexible PVC DAUPRO WATERSTOP GB-20 features a deeply ribbed profile that mechanically anchors into the setting concrete, creating an impenetrable structural wall against groundwater flow.
  • TPE Engineering for Extreme Seismis Gaps: Positioned over high-movement structural expansion joints via structural epoxy adhesives, the premium DAUPRO WATERSTOP DB Series (TPE Dilatasyon Bandı) features mesh-lined edges for absolute grip. Its ultra-elastic central unreinforced strip allows it to safely absorb intense tension, compression, and shear movements during long-term building settlement.
